Details
A vulnerability was found in SMC Networks Smcd3g-ccr Firmware up to 1.4.0.41 (Firmware Software). It has been classified as problematic. This affects some unknown functionality of the component Web Management. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-310. This is going to have an impact on integrity. The summary by CVE is:
The web management portal on the SMC SMCD3G-CCR (aka Comcast Business Gateway) with firmware before 1.4.0.49.2 uses predictable session IDs based on time values, which makes it easier for remote attackers to hijack sessions via a brute-force attack on the userid cookie.
The weakness was presented 02/08/2011 by Trustwave's SpiderLabs with Trustwave's SpiderLabs (Website). The advisory is shared at trustwave.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2011-0887. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed by Trustwave's SpiderLabs and been published before and not just after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
Upgrading to version 1.4.0.42 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (65186), Exploit-DB (16123), SecurityFocus (BID 46215†), OSVDB (72434†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-29972†).
