Open redirect vulnerability in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 SP2 and SP3 allows remote attackers to redirect users to arbitrary web sites and conduct phishing attacks via a crafted URL, aka "SharePoint URL Redirection Vulnerability."
The weakness was disclosed 07/10/2012 by Yang Yang with Microsoft as MS12-050 as confirmed bulletin (Microsoft Technet). The advisory is available at technet.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-1862 since 03/22/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. The successful exploitation requires a simple authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 59913 (MS12-050: Vulnerabilities in SharePoint Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (2695502)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110185 (Microsoft SharePoint Privilege Escalation Vulnerability (MS12-050)).
Applying the patch MS12-050 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
