Details
A vulnerability was found in Ruby on Rails up to 3.0.3 (Programming Language Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the component Browser Plugin. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross-site request forgery vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-352. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Ruby on Rails 2.1.x, 2.2.x, and 2.3.x before 2.3.11, and 3.x before 3.0.4, does not properly validate HTTP requests that contain an X-Requested-With header, which makes it easier for remote attackers to conduct cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks via forged (1) AJAX or (2) API requests that leverage "combinations of browser plugins and HTTP redirects," a related issue to CVE-2011-0696.
The weakness was disclosed 02/14/2011 by Brendan Coles (Rick) with Google Security Team (Website). The advisory is available at weblog.rubyonrails.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-0447. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
