A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Cisco Security Agent up to 5.0. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file webagent.exe of the component Management Console. The Management Console (webagent.exe) in Cisco Security Agent 5.1, 5.2, and 6.0 before 6.0.2.145 allows remote attackers to create arbitrary files and execute arbitrary code via unspecified parameters in a crafted st_upload request.
The weakness was presented 02/18/2011 by Gerry Eisenhaur with isen (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-0364 since 01/07/2011. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.
A public exploit has been developed by Gerry Eisenhaur in Python and been published 2 months after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 69953 (Management Center for Cisco Security Agents Remote Code Execution (cisco-sa-20110216-csa)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CISCO. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119011 (Cisco Security Agent Management Center Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (cisco-sa-20110216-csa)).
Upgrading to version 5.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 11276.
