The weakness was shared 07/17/2012 by Arthur Gerkis (moz_bug_r_a4) as MFSA 2012-48 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-1958 since 03/30/2012. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and also a private exploit are known.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 59998 (CentOS 5 / 6 : firefox (CESA-2012:1088)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
