Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in CA Total Defense. Affected is an unknown code block in the library CA.Itm.Server.ManagementWS.dll of the component Web Service. The manipulation of the argument GUID with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Directory traversal vulnerability in the Heartbeat Web Service in CA.Itm.Server.ManagementWS.dll in the Management Server in CA Total Defense (TD) r12 before SE2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via directory traversal sequences in the GUID parameter in an upload request to FileUploadHandler.ashx.
The weakness was disclosed 04/18/2011 by Andrea Micalizzi (rgod) (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.ca.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2011-1654 since 04/06/2011. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
