A vulnerability has been found in David King vino up to 2.19.4 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function rfbSendFramebufferUpdate in the library server/libvncserver/rfbserver.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The rfbSendFramebufferUpdate function in server/libvncserver/rfbserver.c in vino-server in Vino 2.x before 2.28.3, 2.32.x before 2.32.2, 3.0.x before 3.0.2, and 3.1.x before 3.1.1, when tight encoding is used, allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) via crafted dimensions in a framebuffer update request that triggers an out-of-bounds read operation.
The weakness was released 05/10/2011 as Bug 694456 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-0905 since 02/08/2011. The attack can be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a single authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 63671 (CentOS 6 : vino (CESA-2013:0169)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120956 (CentOS Security Update for Vino (CESA-2013:0169)).
Upgrading to version 2.19.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
