A vulnerability has been found in Google Android SDK up to 1.5 (Smartphone Operating System) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality. not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
dexdump in Android SDK before 2.3 does not properly perform structural verification, which allows user-assisted remote attackers to cause a denial of service (dexdump crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a malformed APK or dex file that calls a method using more arguments than the number of register that have been declared for that method.
The weakness was disclosed 07/08/2011 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared for download at android.git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-1001 since 02/14/2011. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
Upgrading to version 1.6 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at android.git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component.
