CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in phpMyAdmin (Database Administration Software). This issue affects an unknown part in the library libraries/auth/swekey/swekey.auth.lib.php. The manipulation of the argument remote with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. Impacted is integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

libraries/auth/swekey/swekey.auth.lib.php in the Swekey authentication feature in phpMyAdmin 3.x before 3.3.10.2 and 3.4.x before 3.4.3.1 assigns values to arbitrary parameters referenced in the query string, which allows remote attackers to modify the SESSION superglobal array via a crafted request, related to a "remote variable manipulation vulnerability."

The weakness was published 07/14/2011 by wofeiwo (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at phpmyadmin.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-2505. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

A public exploit has been developed by wofeiwo and been published before and not just after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 6 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. By approaching the search of inurl:libraries/auth/swekey/swekey.auth.lib.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 57346 (phpMyAdmin 3.3.x / 3.4.x < 3.3.10.2 / 3.4.3.1 Multiple Vulnerabilities (PMASA-2011-5 - PMASA-2011-8)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12510 (phpMyAdmin Multiple Vulnerabilities (PMASA-2011-5, PMASA-2011-6, PMASA-2011-7, PMASA-2011-8)).

Upgrading to version 3.1.4 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (68370), Exploit-DB (17510), Tenable (57346), SecurityFocus (BID 48563†) and OSVDB (73611†). Similar entries are available at VDB-57938, VDB-57937 and VDB-57936. Be aware that VulDB is the high quality source for vulnerability data.
