Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in phpMyAdmin 3.4.0.0/3.4.1.0/3.4.2.0/3.4.3.0/3.4.3.1 (Database Administration Software). This affects an unknown function of the component Libraries. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Multiple directory traversal vulnerabilities in the relational schema implementation in phpMyAdmin 3.4.x before 3.4.3.2 allow remote authenticated users to include and execute arbitrary local files via directory traversal sequences in an export type field, related to (1) libraries/schema/User_Schema.class.php and (2) schema_export.php.
The weakness was shared 08/01/2011 by Norman Hippert with Norman as Bug 725383 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2011-2718 since 07/11/2011. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. The successful exploitation requires a authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 55766 (Fedora 14 : phpMyAdmin-3.4.3.2-1.fc14 (2011-9725)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks.
Upgrading to version 3.4.0.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (68768), Tenable (55766), SecurityFocus (BID 48874†), OSVDB (74111†) and Secunia (SA45365†).
