A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 (Groupware Software). This affects an unknown function of the file EditForm.aspx. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in EditForm.aspx in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2010 and SharePoint Foundation 2010 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a post, aka "Editform Script Injection Vulnerability."
The weakness was published 09/15/2011 (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2011-1890. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
By approaching the search of inurl:EditForm.aspx it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56177 (MS11-074: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft SharePoint Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (2451858)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110159 (Microsoft SharePoint Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability (MS11-074)).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 11529.
