A vulnerability was found in Measuresoft ScadaPro up to 2.6.0 (SCADA Software). It has been classified as very critical. This affects some unknown functionality of the file service.exe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Multiple stack-based buffer overflows in service.exe in Measuresoft ScadaPro 4.0.0 and earlier allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a long command to port 11234, as demonstrated with the TF command.
The weakness was published 09/16/2011 by Luigi Auriemma (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2011-3490 since 09/16/2011. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a public exploit are known. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 03/10/2025).
A public exploit has been developed by Metasploit in Ruby and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com.
