The manipulation of the argument certain with an unknown input leads to a resource management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-399. Impacted is availability. The csnStreamDissector function in epan/dissectors/packet-csn1.c in the CSN.1 dissector in Wireshark 1.6.x before 1.6.3 does not initialize a certain variable, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a malformed packet.

The weakness was released 11/03/2011 as Bug 750643 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-4100. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
