Off-by-one error in the CSoundFile::ReadAMS2 function in src/load_ams.cpp in libmodplug before 0.8.8.4 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted AMS file with a large number of instruments.

The weakness was disclosed 06/07/2012 by Hossein Lotfi (Website). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2011-2915 since 07/27/2011. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56126 (CentOS 4 : gstreamer-plugins (CESA-2011:1264)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks.
