A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Tor 0.2.2.37 (Network Encryption Software). Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the file routerlist.c of the component Relay-List Iteration. routerlist.c in Tor before 0.2.2.38 uses a different amount of time for relay-list iteration depending on which relay is chosen, which might allow remote attackers to obtain sensitive information about relay selection via a timing side-channel attack.
The weakness was presented 08/03/2012 by Robert Ransom (arma) as Bug 6530 as not defined posting (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the project team. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-3519 since 06/14/2012. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
