The sosreport utility in the Red Hat sos package before 2.2-29 does not remove the root user password information from the Kickstart configuration file (/root/anaconda-ks.cfg) when creating an archive of debugging information, which might allow attackers to obtain passwords or password hashes.

The weakness was shared 06/29/2012 with Red Hat (Website). The advisory is available at rhn.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-2664 since 05/14/2012. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
