The DHCP client (udhcpc) in BusyBox before 1.20.0 allows remote DHCP servers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in the (1) HOST_NAME, (2) DOMAIN_NAME, (3) NIS_DOMAIN, and (4) TFTP_SERVER_NAME host name options.

The weakness was released 07/03/2012 (Website). The advisory is available at bugs.busybox.net. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-2716 since 07/11/2011. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack needs to approached within the local network. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
