A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in 389 Directory Server up to 1.2.7.4 (Directory Service Software). This affects the function acllas__handle_group_entry. The acllas__handle_group_entry function in servers/plugins/acl/acllas.c in 389 Directory Server before 1.2.10 does not properly handled access control instructions (ACIs) that use certificate groups, which allows remote authenticated LDAP users with a certificate group to cause a denial of service (infinite loop and CPU consumption) by binding to the server.
The weakness was disclosed 07/03/2012 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at fedorahosted.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-0833 since 01/19/2012. The attack can only be done within the local network. The successful exploitation needs a authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68552 (Oracle Linux 6 : 389-ds-base (ELSA-2012-0813)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks. Upgrading to version 1.2.7.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
