msg.c in the MSN protocol plugin in libpurple in Pidgin before 2.10.4 does not properly handle crafted characters, which allows remote servers to cause a denial of service (application crash) by placing these characters in a text/plain message.

The weakness was presented 07/03/2012 by Fabian Yamaguchi (Website). The advisory is available at pidgin.im. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-2318 since 04/19/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
