The theme implementation in Moodle 2.0.x before 2.0.4 and 2.1.x before 2.1.1 triggers duplicate caching of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript content, which allows remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions and write to an operating-system temporary directory via unspecified vectors.

The weakness was released 07/16/2012 as MDL-28147 do not double cache theme css/js as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared at git.moodle.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-4293 since 11/04/2011. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
