A vulnerability was found in moodle up to 2.1.2 (Learning Management Software). It has been rated as critical. backup/moodle2/restore_stepslib.php in Moodle 2.0.x before 2.0.6 and 2.1.x before 2.1.3 does not check for the moodle/course:changeidnumber privilege during handling of course ID numbers, which allows remote authenticated users to overwrite ID numbers via a restore action.
The weakness was disclosed 07/20/2012 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared for download at git.moodle.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-4589 since 11/29/2011. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.
