A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in FFmpeg up to 0.9.1 (Multimedia Processing Software). Affected is the function dpcm_decode_frame of the file dpcm.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The dpcm_decode_frame function in dpcm.c in libavcodec in FFmpeg before 0.10 and in Libav 0.5.x before 0.5.9, 0.6.x before 0.6.6, 0.7.x before 0.7.6, and 0.8.x before 0.8.1 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted stereo stream in a media file.
The issue has been introduced in 06/23/2011. The weakness was presented 08/20/2012 by ami_stuff (Website). The advisory is available at ubuntu.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2011-3951 since 10/01/2011. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
