A vulnerability was found in Debian cifs-utils 2.6. It has been declared as problematic. mount.cifs in cifs-utils 2.6 allows local users to determine the existence of arbitrary files or directories via the file path in the second argument, which reveals their existence in an error message.
The weakness was shared 08/27/2012 as Bug 8821 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.samba.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-1586 since 03/12/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
