A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in BEA WebLogic 6.1/7.0/8.1 (Application Server Software). This issue affects an unknown function of the component EJB Object Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The remove method in a stateful Enterprise JavaBean (EJB) in BEA WebLogic Server and WebLogic Express version 8.1 through SP2, 7.0 through SP4, and 6.1 through SP6, does not properly check EJB permissions before unexporting a bean, which allows remote authenticated users to remove EJB objects from remote views before the security exception is thrown.
The bug was discovered 04/21/2004. The weakness was presented 04/20/2004 with BEA Systems, Inc. (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at dev2dev.bea.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-0713 since 07/20/2004. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 87197 (Oracle WebLogic Server Multiple Vulnerabilities (BEA04-56.00,BEA04-57.00,BEA04-58.00)).
Upgrading to version 6.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at dev2dev.bea.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component.
