Mobile Accounts in Apple Mac OS X before 10.7.5 and 10.8.x before 10.8.2 saves password hashes for external-account use even if external accounts are not enabled, which might allow remote attackers to determine passwords via unspecified access to a mobile account.

The weakness was published 09/20/2012 by Jesse Ruderman with Zero Day Initiative as HT5501 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-3720 since 06/19/2012. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
