The div_long_long_rem implementation in include/asm-x86/div64.h in the Linux kernel before 2.6.26 on the x86 platform allows local users to cause a denial of service (Divide Error Fault and panic) via a clock_gettime system call.

The issue has been introduced in 04/17/2008. The weakness was released 10/03/2012 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-3209 since 08/19/2011. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
