The weakness was disclosed 06/30/2009 by Juan Galiana Lara (Paul) (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2011-4911 since 12/23/2011. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k.
