Details
A vulnerability was found in html2ps 1.0. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Directory traversal vulnerability in html2ps before 1.0b6 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the "include file" SSI directive. NOTE: this issue only might be a vulnerability in limited scenarios, such as if html2ps is invoked by a web application, or if a user-assisted attacker provides filenames whose contents could cause a denial of service, such as certain devices.
The weakness was released 10/10/2012 with epiphant (Website). The advisory is available at user.it.uu.se. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2009-5067 since 04/05/2011. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
