ISC DHCP 4.1.x before 4.1-ESV-R7 and 4.2.x before 4.2.4-P2 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) in opportunistic circumstances by establishing an IPv6 lease in an environment where the lease expiration time is later reduced.
The weakness was released 09/12/2012 by Glen Eustace with Massey University as AA-00779 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at kb.isc.org. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-3955 since 07/11/2012. The attack needs to be done within the local network. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
