A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Novell File Reporter 1.0.2 (Reporting Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the file NFRAgent.exe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in NFRAgent.exe in Novell File Reporter 1.0.2 allows remote attackers to upload and execute files via a 130 /FSF/CMD request with a .. (dot dot) in a FILE element of an FSFUI record.
The weakness was released 11/18/2012 by Juan Vazquez as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-4959 since 09/17/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
A public exploit has been developed by Metasploit in Ruby and been published 1 days after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional.
