A vulnerability was found in Apple iOS up to 5.1.1 (Smartphone Operating System). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown part of the component FreeType. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. FreeType before 2.4.9, as used in Mozilla Firefox Mobile before 10.0.4 and other products, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (invalid heap read operation and memory corruption) or possibly execute arbitrary code via crafted property data in a BDF font.
The weakness was disclosed 09/19/2012 by Mateusz Jurczyk with Google Security Team as APPLE-SA-2012-09-19-1 as confirmed posting (Website). The advisory is shared at prod.lists.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-1126 since 02/14/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 04/24/2019). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.
