A vulnerability has been found in Apple iOS up to 5.1.1 (Smartphone Operating System) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component FreeType. FreeType before 2.4.9, as used in Mozilla Firefox Mobile before 10.0.4 and other products, on 64-bit platforms allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (invalid heap read operation and memory corruption) or possibly execute arbitrary code via vectors related to the cell table of a font.
The weakness was disclosed 09/19/2012 by Mateusz Jurczyk with Google Security Team as APPLE-SA-2012-09-19-1 as not defined posting (Website). The advisory is available at prod.lists.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-1131 since 02/14/2012. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/01/2018). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.

Upgrading to version 6.0 eliminates this vulnerability. The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with Google Android as an alternative.
