Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Wireshark (Packet Analyzer Software). This affects the function dissect_oampdu_event_notification. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
The dissect_oampdu_event_notification function in epan/dissectors/packet-slowprotocols.c in the IEEE 802.3 Slow Protocols dissector in Wireshark 1.6.x before 1.6.13 and 1.8.x before 1.8.5 does not properly handle certain short lengths, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop) via a malformed packet.
The weakness was shared 02/02/2013 by Laurent Butti as Bug 8036 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugs.wireshark.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-1572 since 01/30/2013. Access to the local network is required for this attack to succeed. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
