Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Linux Kernel 3.0.62 (Operating System). This issue affects an unknown code of the component Bluetooth Protocol Stack. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
The Bluetooth protocol stack in the Linux kernel before 3.6 does not properly initialize certain structures, which allows local users to obtain sensitive information from kernel stack memory via a crafted application that targets the (1) L2CAP or (2) HCI implementation.
The weakness was disclosed 03/15/2013 by Tetsuo Handa (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-6544 since 03/14/2013. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 67235 (CentOS 5 : kernel (CESA-2013:1034)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 350544 (Amazon Linux Security Advisory for kernel: ALAS-2013-200).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (82867), Tenable (67235), SecurityFocus (BID 55361†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-40860†). The entries VDB-7108, VDB-7839, VDB-7840 and VDB-8176 are pretty similar. If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
