Linux Kernel 3.0.62 Bluetooth RFCOMM information disclosure

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability described as problematic has been identified in Linux Kernel 3.0.62. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component Bluetooth RFCOMM. The manipulation results in information disclosure. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-6545. There is no available exploit.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Linux Kernel 3.0.62 (Operating System). Affected is an unknown code block of the component Bluetooth RFCOMM. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

The Bluetooth RFCOMM implementation in the Linux kernel before 3.6 does not properly initialize certain structures, which allows local users to obtain sensitive information from kernel memory via a crafted application.

The weakness was presented 03/15/2013 by George Kargiotakis (Website). The advisory is shared for download at kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-6545 since 03/14/2013. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 71133 (Oracle Linux 5 / 6 : unbreakable enterprise kernel (ELSA-2013-2584)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 350544 (Amazon Linux Security Advisory for kernel: ALAS-2013-200).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (82868), Tenable (71133), SecurityFocus (BID 58795†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-40861†).
