Use-after-free vulnerability in the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) implementation in Google Chrome before 18.0.1025.151 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact via vectors related to line boxes.
The weakness was disclosed 09/19/2012 by Sergey Glazunov (miaubiz) with Google Chrome Security Team as APPLE-SA-2012-09-19-1 as confirmed posting (Website). The advisory is shared for download at prod.lists.apple.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-3069 since 08/09/2011. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 58609 (FreeBSD : chromium -- multiple vulnerabilities (057130e6-7f61-11e1-8a43-00262d5ed8ee)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. Upgrading to version 6.0 eliminates this vulnerability. The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with Google Android as an alternative. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
