A vulnerability has been found in Apache Subversion up to 1.7.7 (Versioning Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the component mod_dav_svn. The manipulation of the argument uninitialized with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The mod_dav_svn Apache HTTPD server module in Subversion 1.7.0 through 1.7.8 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (segmentation fault and crash) via a log REPORT request with an invalid limit, which triggers an access of an uninitialized variable.
The weakness was published 05/02/2013 by Philip Martin as Bug 929095 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-1884 since 02/19/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
