A vulnerability was found in Red Hat libvirt up to 0.6.1 (Virtualization Software). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects the function virBitmapParse. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The virBitmapParse function in util/virbitmap.c in libvirt before 1.1.2 allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read and crash) via a crafted bitmap, as demonstrated by a large nodeset value to numatune.
The weakness was shared 09/30/2013 as Bug 997367 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-5651 since 08/30/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
