A vulnerability has been found in IBM WebSphere Application Server up to 8.5 (Application Server Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the component Multidomain Support. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a credentials management vulnerability. IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 6.1 before 6.1.0.45, 7.0 before 7.0.0.25, 8.0 before 8.0.0.5, and 8.5 before 8.5.0.1, when multi-domain support is configured, does not purge password data from the authentication cache, which has unspecified impact and remote attack vectors.
The weakness was disclosed 09/24/2012 as swg21611313 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at www-01.ibm.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-3306 since 06/07/2012. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1552 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

Upgrading to version 6.1.0.45, 7.0.0.25, 8.0.0.5 or 8.5.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
