A vulnerability was found in Supmua sup 0.13.0/0.13.1/0.13.2/0.14.0/0.14.1. It has been declared as critical. lib/sup/message_chunks.rb in Sup before 0.13.2.1 and 0.14.x before 0.14.1.1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in the content_type of an email attachment.
The weakness was disclosed 12/07/2013 (Website). The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-4479 since 06/12/2013. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 71118 (Debian DSA-2805-1 : sup-mail - command injection), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 124067 (Fedora Security Update for ruby-ncurses (FEDORA-2015-14929)).
Upgrading to version 0.13.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
