A vulnerability has been found in Poppler up to 0.10.3 (Document Reader Software) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function JBIG2Stream::readSegments of the file JBIG2Stream.cc. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The JBIG2Stream::readSegments method in JBIG2Stream.cc in Poppler before 0.24.5 does not use the correct specifier within a format string, which allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (segmentation fault and application crash) via a crafted PDF file.
The weakness was presented 01/25/2014 as Bug 1048199 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-7296 since 01/17/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 0.10.4 eliminates this vulnerability.
