A vulnerability was found in CMU Flite 1.4 and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function play_wave_from_socket. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a link following vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-59. The product attempts to access a file based on the filename, but it does not properly prevent that filename from identifying a link or shortcut that resolves to an unintended resource. The play_wave_from_socket function in audio/auserver.c in Flite 1.4 allows local users to modify arbitrary files via a symlink attack on /tmp/awb.wav. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.
The weakness was shared 01/25/2014 by Florian Weimer with Red Hat Product Security Team as Bug 1048678 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-0027 since 12/03/2013. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
