OTRS up to 3.3.3 cross-site request forgery

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross-site request forgery vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-352. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Multiple cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerabilities in (1) CustomerPreferences.pm, (2) CustomerTicketMessage.pm, (3) CustomerTicketProcess.pm, and (4) CustomerTicketZoom.pm in Kernel/Modules/ in Open Ticket Request System (OTRS) 3.1.x before 3.1.19, 3.2.x before 3.2.14, and 3.3.x before 3.3.4 allow remote attackers to hijack the authentication of arbitrary users for requests that (5) create tickets or (6) send follow-ups to existing tickets.

The weakness was published 02/04/2014 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at otrs.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-1694 since 01/29/2014. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 72655 (Debian DSA-2867-1 : otrs2 - several vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 122884 (Debian Security Update for otrs2 (DSA 2867-1)).

Upgrading to version 3.3.0 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (72655), SecurityFocus (BID 65217†), OSVDB (102632†), Secunia (SA56644†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-43178†). Similar entry is available at VDB-66299. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
