A vulnerability was found in Roundcube Webmail (Mail Client Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function. The manipulation of the argument _value with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Absolute path traversal vulnerability in steps/mail/sendmail.inc in Roundcube Webmail before 0.7.3 and 0.8.x before 0.8.6 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a full pathname in the _value parameter for the generic_message_footer setting in a save-perf action to index.php, as exploited in the wild in March 2013.
The weakness was released 02/07/2014 (Website). The advisory is available at sourceforge.net. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-1904 since 02/19/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy.
