python-bugzilla before 0.9.0 does not validate X.509 certificates, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof Bugzilla servers via a crafted certificate.
The weakness was disclosed 02/07/2014 by Florian Weimer with Red Hat as Bug a782282 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at git.fedorahosted.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-2191 since 02/19/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 75076 (openSUSE Security Update : python-bugzilla (openSUSE-SU-2013:1154-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166072 (SUSE Security Update for python-bugzilla (openSUSE-SU-2013:1155-1)).
Upgrading to version 12.3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.fedorahosted.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
