The Red Hat mkdumprd script for kexec-tools, as distributed in the kexec-tools 1.x before 1.102pre-154 and 2.x before 2.0.0-209 packages in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, includes all of root s SSH private keys within a vmcore file, which allows context-dependent attackers to obtain sensitive information by inspecting the file content.

The weakness was disclosed 02/15/2014 as Bug 716439 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-3590 since 09/21/2011. Access to the local network is required for this attack. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1600 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68470 (Oracle Linux 5 : kexec-tools (ELSA-2012-0152)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
