Apple Type Services (ATS) in Apple OS X before 10.9.2 does not properly validate calls to the free function, which allows attackers to bypass the App Sandbox protection mechanism via crafted Mach messages.

The weakness was presented 02/26/2014 by Meder Kydyraliev with Google Security Team as HT6150 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-1255 since 01/08/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 72687 (Mac OS X 10.9.x < 10.9.2 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
