The issue has been introduced in 03/22/2001. The weakness was shared 07/08/2014 by Sebastian Apelt as MS14-037 as confirmed bulletin (Technet) via ZDI (Zero Day Initiative). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-1765 since 01/29/2014. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 4784 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
