A vulnerability has been found in WordPress 3.9.0/3.9.1 (Content Management System) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the file wp-includes/pluggable.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross-site request forgery vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-352. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:

wp-includes/pluggable.php in WordPress before 3.9.2 does not use delimiters during concatenation of action values and uid values in CSRF tokens, which makes it easier for remote attackers to bypass a CSRF protection mechanism via a brute-force attack.

The weakness was presented 08/13/2014 by David Tomaschik (Alex) as confirmed posting (oss-sec). The advisory is available at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-5205 since 08/13/2014. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

By approaching the search of inurl:wp-includes/pluggable.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 82202 (Debian DLA-56-1 : wordpress security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 122564 (Fedora Security Update for wordpress (FEDORA-2014-9270)).

Upgrading to version 3.9.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
