Libnotify in Apple iOS before 8 and Apple TV before 7 lacks proper bounds checking on write operations, which allows attackers to execute arbitrary code as root via a crafted application.
The weakness was shared 09/17/2014 by Ian Beer (evad3rs) with Google Project Zero as HT6443 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-4381 since 06/20/2014. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
